The cool thing about this hike is that there are many different paths you can take. My buddies and I took multiple paths. One path led to an area with a pong and some hills, the other took us towards the lake.
The hike is pretty easy. There was only one kind of steep hill, but nothing that intense. There are horses and bikers throughout the trail so just keep an ear out for them.
Aside from the different paths though, the hike was mediocre. Wasn't a good work out unless you jogged or ran it, and the scenery was nothing to talk about on the car ride home. I think the only thing we brought up during the car ride home regarding the hike was the super star house that sits on a hill right where the parking lot to the hike is. It has a long VIP type drive way up to the house.
My wife and I (25 years old) and our husky hiked the hills today July about 630pm it was getting cooler and and darker but, we were prepared with extra food, clothes WATER and flash light if we got turned around before we could get back before dusk. there is a free parking lot at the base of the trails go up the paved road and pick the trails you want... there is a lot to explore, dogs, horses, bikers, are on the trails so BE CAREFUL.
My wife, son and dog met up with a friend yesterday morning at 9am for a hike through the park. It started off fairly warm; but it's definitely an easy hike up La Honda to the Ranch. From there, the paved road goes into dirt and the real hiking begins. We didn't have too much time, so from the Ranch we looped back on the Creek Crossing Trail via the East Ridge Trail. East Ridge had a nice, steep hill to get the heart pumping, but the views of the lake were awesome!! Definitely a place to check out!
